Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.
John Fitzgerald Kennedy, 35th US President
In any organisation, having good leaders can make huge different.
Throughout the first week of school, AIUIS teacher selected students who exhibit excellent attitude, to become our students leaders; prefects, class monitors and assistant class monitor.
Class monitors and assistant class monitors were selected according to their class. Meanwhile, only year 4 to year 6 students were considered in the selection of prefects.
All selected students went through a fortnight of probationary period. This is to make sure they can carry out their basic leadership duties; taking care of younger students and classmates during transition times and leading their peers to do the best in every aspects of life.
After the probationary period, these young leaders participated in the first AIU International School Leadership Camp organised by AIU Interns. The camp commandant was Mr. Taufik. This two-day-one-night camp was conducted to improve the leadership, teamwork and communication skills.
Leadership camp activities
The camp started with students registration and briefing. There were 23 participants which involves students from all levels.
After the registration, students had a tea break, followed by survival cooking activity and dinner.
At night, the participants worked together to achieve task in a communication game. After that, they went through the night trail which challenged their courage and communication skills.
All participants went to sleep around 12.00 am. They slept in the tents. All tents were set up in the hall.
The next morning, all participants woke up around 5.40 am for the prayer and morning exercises. Despite the lack of sleep, all of them gave full cooperation to the facilitators.
After our exercise, we had our breakfast and tidied up our tents. Then, Mr. Azli delivered a briefing on leadership, the skills and their duties.
Finally, we had the camp closing at 12.00 pm. All students went back around 1.00 pm.
We would like to thank all intern teachers, teachers and staff for the collaboration throughout AIUIS Leadership Camp. We are alsograteful that all parents allowed the students to participate in the camp fully, including staying overnight at school. Not to forget, AIU Students Affairs for lending us the tents.
We hope our students gained valuable experience and good insights to become better leaders in the future. Last but not least, we wish all the best to all students leaders in carrying out their duties throughout academic year 2023/2024.
Lets end this post with our leaders chant:
